Natural Deodorant : Paste to Stick

Kali pertama buat nih tahun 2012. Kenapa saya switch? I was ditching all commercial product from my skincare regime. Masa tuh saya mula dengan paste type natural deodorant. Sangat puas hati dengan hasilnye. Bau badan memang terkawal. Cuma biasalah bila dah biasa pakai commercial deodorant nih sekali bertukar pulak ke natural deodorant, memang berpeluh banyak gile. Ketiak memang basah aje. Tapi bau ketiak or bau peluh masam takde. 

Ingatkan bad reaction to the deo. Rupanye  commercial deodorant yang saya guna selama nih memastikan ketiak  kering tanpa peluh. Ianye mengandungi bahan antiperspirants.  Kesimpulannye, selama nih peluh terhalang dari keluar. Sedangkan berpeluh itu proses yang normal. Jadi bila terhalang berpuluh tahun lamanya, badan terus berusaha menghasilkan peluh.

Bila kini tiada antiperspirant banyak lah peluh yang terhasil, walaupun tak buat apa2. Ambil masa dekat 2 bulan untuk berpeluh secara normal. 

Jadi sepanjang masa tuh saya akan apply 2 - 3 kali sehari deodorant paste nih. Ketiak saya juga gelap kerana guna commercial deodorant & bercukur selama puluhan tahun. Jadi saya nak cari natural solution untuk cerahkan ketiak. I know by experience, cocoa butter memang bule mencerahkan kulit. Jadi saya improve resepi saya gunakan cocoa butter sebagai bahan utama. 

BTW, I am a very active, & banyak berpeluh. Kalau baju tak lencun & peluh tak menitik di gym memang tak puas. So it was very important that the deodorant was able to combat body odour. Deo-paste nih dah bagus bau badan terkawal & ketiak makin cerah (kerana tiada antiperspirant & saya switch to waxing). Tapi, nak sapu deo paste guna jari sangatlah leceh. Saya gunakan  cornstarch & baking soda, jadi texture paste nih agak berpasir halus.  Oleh kerana ianya berkesan saya tak kisah, tapi nak kena cuci tangan tiap kali guna deo tersangatlah leceh. 

Zblend Deo-stick 
Masa nih saya mula hasilkan deodorant spray juga. Tapi kerana saya dah jatuh cinta dengan deo-paste, jadi saya improve packaging from paste kepada stick. Banyak testing perlu dilakukan. Apa cara paling effective nak guna deo stick nih? Berapa banyak nak sapu? 1 stick bule guna brape lama . Kalau outdoor activity, masih berkesan ke?  

Along the way, I upgrade lagi effectiveness deo-stick nih. Potato essence (untuk proses pencerahan lebih cepat & berkesan). Blend of essential oil yang paling effective to fight body odour.

I tested with High-Intensity Exercises & outdoor activities such as:
  • HIIT / Circut Training
  • Les Mills Program: Bodypump, BodyCombat, GRIT
  • Zumba
  • 10KM Marathon
  • Spartan Race: SPRINT & SUPER
  • Mount Kinabalu climb to the peak 

Jadi hasilnya, Deo-stick nih:
  • Satu size aje @ 20gm.
  • Bau pun satu aje. (Blend of essential oils) 
  • Soft-stick. (Tak bule tenyeh macam deo stick biasa. Twist 1mm. Sapu secara lembut dalam satu arah). 
  • Biar kering dalam 1 ke 2 minit sebelum berpakaian. Supaya tiada kesan putih pada baju. 
  • Jangan guna terlalu banyak sekali sapuan. It will leave residue. 

Ada yang bertanya kenapa saya tak hasilkan deo-stick yang lebih keras macam commercial deo? 
Saya belum jumpa kaedah yang terbaik untuk upgrade ke level itu, tanpa antiperspirant.

When you hit 30s

I was a lazy person when it comes to skincare. But when I hit 30s things changed. What worked in my 20s did not work anymore. My skin needed more attention. Minimal care did not work anymore. I needed a routine to get healthy skin & keep it that way. Of course, I did not realize this then.

I was hit with hormonal acne in my 30s with severe cystic acne taking lead. I had clear skin throughout my teenage years & my 20s. Occasional breakouts during menstrual, but that was the max. So getting a severe case of acne in your 30s all over forehead, cheeks, jawline is very depressing.

I don't really use make-upI haves even in my 20s. My skincare regime consisted of cleanser, moisturizer & compact powder. I started to read a lot and tried almost everything from commercial solutions to natural remedies on my skin. This made my skin worse. I had cysts but at the same time dry, dull & flaky skin. The scar left by the cysts were dark & deep. Frustrated, I ditched everything. Let my skin be. Then the cysts started to slow down but I had super oily skin.

As a last resort, I went to a skin specialist. I was prescribed with birth control pills to balance the hormone & series of natural skincare regime consisting of a cleanser, acne serum, vitamin C serum, moisturizer.

To my surprise, it was starting to turn around. Skin still oily thou but no more cysts. No more breakouts. So I started digging the internet for more natural skincare solutions. Alas, they were limited to none, especially in Malaysia. Digging deeper, I found DIY Natural Skincare Solution. I started making my own. I started with Deodorant paste which later I improved to Deodorant stick & Lavender Body Oil.  I also learned how lifestyle, hygiene, hydration & chemical-free skincare plays a role in having healthy skin. 

So I started making changes to my life. Among the things I did:
  • Drinking at least 2 liters of water every day
  • Take green-tea daily
  • Eat lots of RAW food i.e fruits and salads
  • Go super low & substitute white sugar 
  • EXERCISE!!!  sweat it off
  • Go low on carbs & high in fiber & protein
  • Control caffeine intakes 
  • Watch out for food causing breakout. Mine are nuts, high carb, white sugar & dairy. 
  • Take additional care on facial hygiene i.e
    • Have a dedicated face towel
    • Have a pillow cover when sleeping
    • Keep your face hydrated ~ moisturize
    • Don't use drying or peeling skincare products
    • Tilt your head backward when washing your hair
    • Don't let the toothpaste foam in contact with your skin when brushing your teeth

What worked for me may work for you. You will never know if you never try. My skin has improved tremendously. My skin is more balances now. As I am reaching 40, I can feel my skin changing again. It's becoming dryer. Lines & pores are more visible. I am working on solutions. Especially on hydrating my skin from within. I'll tell you in my next post.

In the meantime, listen to your body & work out a solution. It could be a single solution or a combination of multiple things like mine. Whatever it is, take charge of your skin. OWN IT.

My Night Regime


This is my MUST use night regime…I started using this in 2011....I hit 30s and was going through hormonal changes. So whatever skincare regime that worked for me in my 20s didn't work anymore. Masa tuh sibuk mencari solution untuk acne…habis semua saya try…medicine, serums, pills...Lepas semua solution di drugstore saya cuba tanpa kejayaan...saya beralih ke internet for natural solution. 

Masa tuh natural skincare was the rage but mostly kat overseas lah ye. Rata-rata they recommend rosehip seed oil...I was like???
  • Guna minyak boleh rawat jerawat? 
  • Bukan punca jerawat MINYAK ke? 
  • Mana pulak nak cari minyak nih kat Malaysia. 
I was like. Oklah since commercial product not working anymore, saya usaha untuk dapatkan rosehip seed oil. Saya cari yang Organic & Cold-pressed. Cuma 1 saya kena bersedia...natural solution akan ambil masa. Macam pelaburan ASB. Simpan setahun dividen ok je. Tapi kalau simpan dah hampir sepuluh tahun compounding dividen memang berbaloi-baloi.

Pengalaman sendiri:

Betul lah kata natural skincare bloggers. Natural solution memang makan masa. Masa saya mula guna rosehip seed oil nih memang tiada perbezaan langsung kat kulit. 2 bulan pertama, ya ampun my T Zone berminyak tahap boleh goreng telur lah. Tapi jerawat baru tiada. Kulit tak kering, jadi saya teruskan aje. Beberapa bulan tuh muka memang sentiasa berkilat aje (glowing dek kerana minyak ye).  Masa tuh malam saya guna Rosehip Seed Oil and siang saya guna Virgin Coconut Oil. (Both oil cold pressed & organic). Saya juga gunakan Aloevera gel (yang kandungnye 99% aloevera & 1% gel).

Saya mula nampak perbezaan lepas 6 bulan. Lepas guna 2 botol rosehip seed oil. Jimat guna minyak nih sebenarnye, coz sekali pakai cuma 1 pump aje. Ratakan sekata ke kulit muka. Saya guna sebelum tidur. Pagi bangun kulit muka lembab dan berseri2 ye….Dah nak 40 nih saya tambah kepada 2 pump sekali guna. Maklumlah kulit semakin kering as you age.

Don't get me wrong ya..rosehip oil sahaja tak cukup to fight acne. I made a lot of lifestyle changes. I even went to skin specialist. I had to combat acne inside out. I had to combat not just new acne but also cyst and scar left behind by acne. Oil became one of my treatment regime.

Lepas setahun guna saya sangat berpuas hati, jadi saya up penggunaan minyak nih. saya mula experiment penggunaannye. Saya guna untuk rambut, tumit pecah, siku & lutut. Saya juga mula tambahkan minyak nih ke dalam product saya sendiri, Zblend. Hasilnye selama hampir 8 tahun saya guna memang sangat berpuas hati. 

Peringatan:
Ada juga mereka yang tidak sesuai dengan rosehip seed oil nih…seperti kulit pedih2, mengelupas dan keluar ruam. Cadangan saya cubalah minyak Argan atau Tamanu Oil ye? Unless you are allergic to nuts then next in line is Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO), Apricot Kernel Oil, Avocado Oil.
